Optimizing Latency in High-Concurrency Multi-Agent Orchestration

Author: PitTech Labs

Engineering techniques for reducing query overhead, message passing delay, and token consumption in collaborative agent networks.

When orchestrating teams of 4 to 8 autonomous agents collaborating on complex workflows (e.g., triage -> verify -> query -> generate -> audit), sequential execution rapidly leads to 15+ second user response delays.

Key Optimization Strategies - **Parallel Subtask Dispatch**: Disjoint tasks (e.g. document analysis and customer history lookup) execute concurrently across Redis pub/sub queues. - **Hierarchical Routing**: A lightweight classification node routes intents directly to the specialized domain agent rather than broadcasting to all nodes. - **Local Embedding Ingestion**: Vector similarity calculations executed locally on PgVector avoid round-trip network hops to remote vector APIs.

Through these techniques, multi-agent response latency drops from 14.8 seconds down to under 2.4 seconds in high-concurrency production environments.
